KARACHI – Islam Gul Afridi, representing Akhbar-e-Khyber and Shazia Hassan of Dawn Media Group were declared winners of the CEJ-ICRC Humanitarian Reporting Awards in the Mainstream Print & Online Urdu and English categories respectively.
Khawar Khan of Geo News won the Mainstream Broadcast (Urdu) category.
An announcement Tuesday by the Center for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi said the awards ceremony will be held on December 15.
The awards focus on humanitarian journalism produced in three categories – Mainstream Broadcast (Urdu), Mainstream Print & Online (Urdu), and Mainstream Print & Online (English).
The CEJ said it received hundreds of entries from across the country.
The panel of judges was: Aamer Ahmed Khan (News Director Aaj TV), Munazza Siddiqui (Executive Producer, Geo News), and Iftikhar Firdous (Bureau Head, The Express Tribune, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).
The following are the winners and runners-up in each of the three categories:
Mainstream Broadcast (Urdu)
Winner: Khawar Khan (Geo News)
Runner-up: Umar Farooq (Voice of America, Urdu)
Mainstream Print & Online (Urdu)
Winner: Islam Gul Afridi (Akhbar-e-Khyber)
Runner-up: Fariha Fatima (ARY News)
Mainstream Print & Online (English)
Winner: Shazia Hassan (Dawn Media Group)
Runner-up: Ghulam Dastageer (Herald).
